Easter market

Get into the spirit of Easter at the first ever Freeworld Easter Market, to be held on 16 April in the courtyard of the historic Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In light of last year’s successful Christmas Market, Cape Town’s oldest operating church (circa 1780) will jointly host another designer artisan market with Freeworld Coatings – South Africa’s leading coatings company.

Exhibitors include Heartworks, Helon Melon, Lorenzo Nassimbeni, Design Africa and Clementina van der Walt – all hand-picked by Lauren Shantall, Head of the Freeworld Design Centre, and formerly the curator and manager of the Design Indaba.

Other hot creatives who will have their wares on offer include Tamarillo Ceramics, Lisa Firer, BOS iced tea, Krafthaus, Quivertree books, John Bauer porcelain, Haas, Tintown, Sojo, Lauren Fowler, Ed Suter, Mingo Lamberti, Peta Bekka, Cara Brink and many more.

The market will also boast live music and a range of home-made food and drink options. For the kiddies, there will be fun activities such as Easter egg painting.

A cup of coffee from Jacques Erasmus’ Hemelhuijs café is also a must, while the Freeworld Design Centre will also be open and currently features an interior design exhibition by leading local designers such as Source IBA, Mila, Yelda Bayraktar and Tracy Lynch.

The market runs from 9am to 3pm at 71 Waterkant Street and entrance is free. This event forms part of WalkCapeTown, a post-World Cup initiative which aims to re-energise the Fan Walk through public events and ultimately to enhance the cultural life of the city.
