The Rainbow Rose phenomenon has divided the VISI team: is it kitsch or cool? Since autumn is the season of evocative colours, we thought we’d let you decide – and try it – for yourself.
Simply use food dye to colour water in different vessels. Then split the rose’s stem and place each splinter into the differently coloured water. The colours will be drawn up the stem and into the petals.
You can also experiment with chrysanthemums, carnations and hydrangeas by varying the colour combinations. Play with different shades by adjusting the concentration of the food colouring you add to the water. Whether the final products are cool enough for your dining-table centrepiece or simply kitsch, the process is pretty darn fun and, I’m sure we all agree, the way nature functions is amazing.
