Who knew a Xhosa beer sifter made out of recycled tin could divinely light up a room? We did!
Seen at Design Indaba earlier this year, this nifty beer sifter formed part of an exhibition by Yenza, the local venture celebrating self-made objects from self-made homes that we featured in the WILD DESIGN issue. The beer sifter has random triangle tin cut-outs, perfect to shine light beams all around a dark room.
You will need:
- A Xhosa beer sifter
Make a hole in the centre of the sieve of this recycled tin beer sifter, available from Marvelous Metals in Khayelitsha, 073 291 4051. - A light bulb on a cord
Thread the cord through the hole from the bottom up and attach a wall plug to the other side. Secure the bulb’s position with a cable tie on top of the sieve. For fabric-covered cords and a variety of bulbs, visit hoiploy.co.za. - A feature rug
This one is crocheted from off-cut industrial rope by yarn-bomber Isabeau Peep, R995, greenelephantcollective.co.za
