Sleep on the job

If you’re anything like the VISI team, you’re already missing the afternoon snoozes that punctuated your holiday afternoons. Much like our airports, South African offices aren’t well-equipped for naps in semi-public spaces, so we think it’s time to invest in the SleepBox.

This contemporary piece of furniture was designed for the increasingly urbanised environment as a quiet and relatively private place to rest or relax within airports and offices. Created to eradicate head lolling at airport lounges, the SleepBox consists of a seamless, free-form shell made from the Swiss wonder-material, Hi-Macs, with a leather-covered mattress slipped inside. Made from 70% natural stone powder, Hi-Macs is hard-wearing, resistant to viruses and bacteria, and eco-friendly.

Designed by Caspar Lohner, the SleepBox will be exhibited in mid-January at Swissbau 2012, one of the biggest specialist exhibitions in Europe. If all goes well there, we could be seeing (and enjoying) the SleepBox abroad, and if things go really well, maybe afternoon naps during our lunch breaks will become commonplace.
