1. Flightlight by Studio Cheha : This is not actually a candleholder but an optical illusion of one! Simply a piece of paper that has been photochemically etched, content director Sumien Brink says: “I want this right now for my long table in Betty’s Bay where we only have candle light.” -
5. Transparente Carafe by Andreas Trenker : “Created with parametric software, what appears to be crumpled glass is a visualisation of the characteristics of different water sources in South Tyrol, Italy, aiming to encourage locals to drink tap water!” gushes editorial assistant Chantel Hans. -
2. Disco Volante by Lukas Galehr of Madame Mohr : A classic Italian trattoria that incorporates the 1970s Disco Era in Vienna got features and online editor Nadine Botha to break into song: “Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Staying alive…” -
8. Sweden Light by Philipp Wiechern : “How simply clever!?” exclaimed deputy ed Annemarie Meintjes about this lamp accessory for Swedish furniture brand Ikea’s iconic Billy bookshelf, but nifty for any shelving. “An update on the workshop lead-lamp that I have grown up with and still use.” -
3. Bicycle by Andy Martin with Thonet Bentwood Furniture : “What I love is how old 1830s craftsmanship can be used to create a modern bike for the 21st century,” says art director Anton Pietersen. “It is also the perfect match for the bokkie handlebars by Taylor Simpson I chose in VISI 65.” -
7. Swell Sofa by Jonas Wagell for Normann Copenhagen : "I am in the process of refreshing my home and this sofa is all sorts of what's right-now about design," says editor-at-large Malibongwe Tyilo. "Comfort. I'm over cold hard lines and this is the antidote to that."
An eclectic range of designs were collected by the VISI team this week, from the extravagant bentwood bicycle and disco-ball pizza oven to the practical Phone+book and bookshelf light, not to mention the esoteric crumpled glass decanters, sensitive moss graffiti and illusory candleholder.
